WAEC Launches Digital Version Of Its Certificate

By Austin Oyebode

The West African Examinations Council on Thursday launched WAEC Digital Certificate Access and Certification Platform, an action described as a revolution in the assessment and Certification industry.

The platform was launched by Mr. Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan, head of national office of WAEC in Nigeria.

While launching the platform, Mr. Areghan said WAEC is committed to it’s mission of encouraging excellence, promoting sustainable human resource development and international cooperation.

He described the development as a resolve of WAEC to meet the growing demand of a changing world.

He said: “We have migrated from physical registration of candidates to online registration, online verification of results and online results printouts,” adding that “the development of the new digital certificate platform is in line with WAEC’s continuous record of meeting global needs by cutting-edge technology to improve candidate’s experience.”

He said the technology is developed in conjunction with one of world’s foremost security technology providers, a development which is being implemented to streamline the issuance and verification of certificates from all over the world.

He said the platform involves mobile and web-based application that is designed for candidates, individuals, institutions and organisations, adding the platform also holds powerful features that enable users to share, access, request and confirm certificates.

He described the erstwhile traditional pattern of receiving, retrieving, sharing, verifying or confirming academic certificates as cumbersome and moribund, saying such process was costly and frustrating. He said though the digital certificate has the same features as the paper certificates, it has the advantage of eliminating fraud.

Mr. Areghan said the benefits of the digital certificate are far reaching as it provides opportunity to generate and share certificates with institutions and organisations. It also has the features of preventing unauthorized users from accessing data of candidates.

He also said with the mobile application accompanying the platform, certificates are accessible via mobile devices and can be shared safely from anywhere from anywhere at the candidates descretion.

Other features according to Mr. Areghan are reliability and authenticity of individual certificates, improved confirmation process, recovery of loss certificates and high quality prints if candidates so desire.

He expressed confidence that this ground breaking digital certificate platform will revolutionize the way people interact with WAEC certificates and drastically improve the mobility of talented students as they move forward in life.
