The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has rolled out tougher measures aimed at further dissuading candidates and schools from engaging in examination malpractices.
The decisions were taken at the 71st meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC), which is the highest decision-making organ of WAEC on examination-related matters in Nigeria, held on April 27, 2021.
For instance, In addition to cancelling their entire results, some candidates will also be barred from sitting for the councils examinations for two years, while some schools will be derecognized for a specified number of years or have their recognition completely withdrawn.
In the same vein, according to a statement signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs in Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu, supervisors who had compromised in their examination duties will be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted while some Invigilators will also be reported to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary action.
He said the decisions of the Committee will be implemented without delay and the affected candidates and examination centres duly informed by the Council.
The statement said the decision of the Federal Government to appoint an Executive Secretary for the National Senior Secondary School Commission was applauded by the committee, who called for collaboration in the fight against examination malpractice.
