Emeka Kema

In the early hours of Friday, bandits attacked the Sabon-Gida community in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, kidnapping more than 24 Federal University of Gusau students.

Over 24 classmates, predominantly women, were kidnapped during the raid, according to a student who spoke  on the condition of anonymity for security concerns.

Nazeer Sabon-Gida, a resident of Sabon-Gida, reported that the gunmen broke into the neighborhood about 3 am and began firing randomly.

He claimed that three student dorms had been raided, and the bandits had abducted every student inside.

He claimed that they arrived in the town at around 3 am and immediately began firing randomly.

“We have yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students there. It is difficult to ascertain their numbers now.”

Another source said that the bandits were engaged with troops of the Nigerian Army in a fierce gun battle but that did not stop the bandits from escaping with the kidnapped victims.

“They were seriously engaged with the army troops but the way these bandits operate, they will divide themselves into two, one group will move with the kidnapped victims while the other will stay behind to protect the first group,” he said.
