Ex-Army Chief Ihejirika Urges FG To Dialogue With Agitators

By Precious Orji

A former Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, has urged the government to embrace dialogue in dealing with the various agitations in the country.

Ihejirika said war should not be considered as an option for resolving the country’s conflicts.

He spoke with journalists during the Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor’s visit to Owerri, Imo State capital.

Irabor was in the state to meet with retired senior military personnel from the South-East to discuss ways to quench insurgency in the region and the country.

Ihejirika advised the Federal Government to meet with aggrieved groups, saying it was preferable to going to war with them.

“All over the world, it is better to jaw-jaw than to war-war. It is important for the government to go for dialogue. I support any approach that would ensure peace in our country,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Irabor told the ex-military personnel, “You are the most critical stakeholders in our quest to ending the (security) imbalance in our country.”
