Gunmen reportedly succeeded in kidnapping three family members when they raided the Greenland neighborhood in Kogi State’s Ajaokuta Local Government Area on Monday. As a result, neighbors were left in disarray.

According to reports, the event took place at 9 o’clock when armed men broke into the neighborhood of Ganaja, which is behind the 500 Housing Estate in the state’s Ajaokuta Local Government Area.

An eyewitness, who did not want his name in print for fear of victimisation, said the armed men arrived at the community in a Sienna vehicle.

The source said they shot indiscriminately while trying to kidnap a retired security officer believed to be their prime target.

The Chairman of the Greenland community, Paul Atabor, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Wednesday.

Atabor explained that the incident has been reported to the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.

He added that the community, on Wednesday morning, received a notice from the suspected kidnappers that they will return to kidnap more residents.

The letter cited by our correspondent read, “Greenland community, get ready for us, we are coming to get someone.”

One of the family members of the kidnap victims told our correspondent that the kidnappers have reached out to the family members and are demanding ransom.

The source did not, however, disclose the amount being demanded by the kidnappers.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, said the command headquarters was yet to be briefed about the incident.

He promised to revert once he got detailed information about the incident from the Divisional Police Officer of the ‘C’ Division.

He had yet to do so as of press time on Wednesday.
