The Oyo State Government, on Friday, said it would return bags of rice received from the Federal Government, after discovering it is in bad condition, the Nation reports.
Three trailers,Daily Post Reports loads of rice containing about 1,800 bags, were sent to the state.
But they have are now said to be infested with weevil and unfit for human consumption.
The Oyo government, however, said it would be expecting another round of replacement for the bad rice.
The government team, which received the items included: Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agricbusiness, Dr Debo Akande, Commissioners Ojemuyiwa Ojekunle (Agric), Chief Bayo Lawal (Special Duties), Mr Seun Fakorede (Youth and Sports), Mrs. Faosat Sanni (Women Affairs and Social Inclusion) and Mrs. Funmilayo Orisadeyi (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters).
According to Akande, only the 1,800 bags of rice received from the Federal Government were found to be infested after a random testing, inspection and re-inspection were conducted on them.
Akande, however, assured the situation will by no means alter the planned arrangement of the State Government to give palliatives to residents, as all the other items are in good condition and safe custody.
