The membership drive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seem to be yeilding fruits, as the party’s leadership formally welcomes former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, into it’s fold.
The Legend reports that, according to APC sources, Ihejirika had disclosed his interest to join the party in February to join the party.
On Friday, Ihejirika met with Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Chairman APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
Mamman Mohammed, Buni’s spokesman, disclosed that the meeting was held in Abuja.
Ihejirika was presented to Buni by Jigawa governor and Chairman APC Strategy and Contact Committee, Abubakar Badaru and Farouk Aliyu.
Mohammed quoted Buni saying that “the coming of Gen. Ihejirika into the APC will increase the fortunes of the party in Abia and the South-East generally”.
“This is a great moment for the party as Gen. Ihejirika and other sons and daughters of the region are coming into the party to deliver the region and bring the South-East closer to the centre.”
According to Buni, APC looked forward to more APC presence in the South-East.
Gen. Ihejirika was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan’s PDP administration as first Nigeria’s Chief of Army from Southeast.
On January 27, 2016, the anti-corruption Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) sealed off an estate along Jabi Airport road junction in Abuja, allegedly belonging to Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika.
He is one of several top military officers implicated in the $2.1 billion arms scam involving the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki
