Kano State Not Owing Us Says WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria has refuted a report in an online publication alleging that the results of candidates from Kano State were being withheld because of the state’s indebtedness to WAEC.

A Statement sent to The Legend by the council’s Head of Public Affairs, Damianus G. Ojijeogu, said there was no iota of truth in the allegation, urging Kano State Government and other affected persons to disregard the report.

He went on to explain that the results of candidates of Kano State origin were released alongside those of other candidates on Monday, November 2, 2020.

Ojijeogu’s statement reads, “the attention of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria has been drawn to a publication in online media, alleging that the results of candidates from Kano State were being withheld as a result of the indebtedness of the Kano State Government to the West African Examinations Council.

“There is no iota of truth in this allegation, whatsoever.For the avoidance of doubt, the Council wishes to state that the results of candidates of Kano State origin were released alongside those of other candidates on Monday, November 2, 2020.

“The Kano State Government is not in any way indebted to the Council. The results of candidates from the State were never, and are not, being withheld as alleged.

“The West African Examinations Council, therefore, urges the Kano State Government,  schools and candidates, parents, and other stakeholders in Kano State to please ignore the publication. “

The statement advised the media to always balance their stories and cross-check their facts before publishing.
