Embattled star artiste R. Kelly, still being investigated over several allegations of sexual abuse of women and paedophilia , was again arraigned in court for failing to pay $161, 633 for child support awarded to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly.
Mr. Kelly had proclaimed his inability to pay the said sum to his ex-wife, after which he was arrested on Wednesday, March 6 and later arraigned for the breach of court order.
Sophia Ansari, spokesperson of the Cook County Sheriff’s office, explained that R. Kelly would remain in jail until he pays the said sum while his next court hearing is fixed for March 13.
Meanwhile, Celine Dion plans pulling R. Kelly collaboration “I’m Your Angel” from streaming.
Darryl Johnson, the singer’s publicist, said he was prepared to pay between $50,000 and $60,000 during the court hearing but the judge insisted the full amount.
Johnson says the sum wasn’t available because the singer has not been able to work since the sexual abuse trial started.
Matters are not getting any easier, as R. Kelly’s recording contract has also been cancelled and he has been the target of a boycott campaign, ever since.
