The days of waiting for one year or more for candidates to receive their certificates are over, as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) yesterday Wednesday, 4th day of July, 2018, promised candidates whose results were just released that they were all receive their certificates in 90 days.
This is another marked improvement in the council’s all-round performance. Parents will recall the harrowing experiences they go through while waiting to collect the certificates of their wards in the recent past. Hence candidates and their parents can now heave a sigh of relief.
Recall that under the present leadership of WAEC’s of National Office, the council’s results are now released in a matter of a few weeks, which is a clear departure from what obtained in the past.
Addressing members of the press at a briefing held at its training and tests office in Ogba, Lagos, the Head of National Office Mr. Olu Adenipekun said that of a total of One million five hundred and seventy eight thousand eight hundred and forty six (1,578,846) candidates that registered for the 2018 WASSCE from seventeen thousand eight hundred and eighty six (17,886) recognized secondary schools in Nigeria, one million five hundred and seventy two thousand three hundred and ninety six (1,572,396) candidates only actually sat for the examination.
Out of One million five hundred and seventy two thousand three hundred and ninety six (1,572,396) candidates that sat the examination, One million two hundred and thirteen thousand two hundred and forty four (1,213,244) candidates representing 76.84% obtained credits and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (i.e with or without English Language and/or Mathematics)
Eight hundred and fifty thousand, four hundred and twenty four (858,424) candidates representing 54.59% obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English language but without Mathematics.
Seven hundred and eighty six thousand and sixteen (786,016) candidates representing 49.98% obtained credits and above in minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
In this category were 389,655 male and 396,361 female, representing 47.32% and 52.92% respectively.
Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination in Nigeria, One million four hundred and seventy thousand three hundred and thirty eight (1,470,338) candidates, representing 93.51% have their results fully processed and released, while One hundred and two thousand and fifty eight (102,058) candidates representing 6.49% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.
Mr. Adenipekun thanked all members of staff and management of WAEC, the invigilators and markers, as well as security agencies for their commitment in insuring a good turnout in the examinations.
