The West African Examination Council ( WAEC) on Tuesday announced the release of the results of Private Candidates who sat for the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) .
The 2019 private WASSCE in Nigeria ( First Series) results was released just 30 days after the conclusion of the examination.
A breakdown of the results shows that out of a total of 11,892 candidates who sat for the examination, 4,314 candidates representing 36.28% obtained credit and above in 5 subjects, and only 3,102 candidates representing 26.08% obtained the optimal credit and above in a minimum of 5 subjects including English Language and General Mathematics. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2018 – First Series was 17.5%.
5,850 candidates representing 50.06% obtained credit and above in 4 subjects, while 7,332 candidates representing 62.74% obtained credit and above in 3 subjects.
A relatively high number of 8,782 candidates representing 75.15% obtained credit and above in two 2 subjects.
A further analysis of the results show that of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, 6,180 were male and 5,712 of them were female, representing 52% and 48% respectively.
At a press conference held at WAEC’s nation office in Yaba, Lagos, the council’s Head of National Office, Mr. Olu Adenipekun, stated that the results of 376 candidates, representing 3.16% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
He said the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council in due course for consideration, after which the committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates.
Adenipekun further explained that , “11,686 candidates, representing 98.27% have their results fully processed and released, while 206 candidates representing 1.73% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.
“Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently, he assured.
The council’s helmsman advised Candidates who sat the examination to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org, using their Results Checker PIN and Serial Number, which are contained on the candidate’s Smart Identification Card.
He commended the staff of the council and other stakeholders, whose sacrifices and commitment to duty, he said; had contributed immensely to the successes recorded during the conduct, marking and processing of the results.
