Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) recently laid the foundation of a new College Chapel building (Chapel of Christ the Redeemer) which is to serve as an interdenominational centre of worship for christian staff and students on campus.
According to the institute’s management, the old structure built in 1996 was demolished to give way to a bigger and befitting structure that will accommodate both the enable students and staff to fellowship together on campus.
The new chapel project which includes the building/structural work, electrical, mechanical and furniture/fittings, will cost N250 million at completion.
In his sermon at the ceremony, titled “Pray to Provoke Divine Intervention”, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya noted that prayer is very essential in human life, adding that, “the only thing devil cannot do is to pray. Prayer is a very effective weapon in the hands of Christian.”
He further stated that, “prayer stimulates God into action; devil trembles when he sees a man praying fervently. There is a huge hope for a prayerful man, we should cultivate the habit of committing all our undertaken into the hands of God in supplication, because He is more than able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, therefore, men ought to pray and faint not.”
He assured the participants in prayer that God will perfect the new Chapel building project.
In his own remarks, Chairman and Founder of Charms Plc, Sir B. Ademola Aladekomo said it is good to build for God, and encouraged the entire College community and visitors to actively participate in the divine assignment, because it is one of the keys that unlocks supernatural blessing.
Earlier on in a welcome address, the Rector of the College, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe said that, “it is a special honour to build for the Lord, as those who build for the Lord do so to glorify His mighty name.”
He thanked the church of God for its support and constant prayers for his administration since inception.
According to him, Yabatech encourages freedom of worship and association, and for this reason both Christians and Moslems co-exist in harmony.
“we have provided designated areas for the Church and the Mosque within the College and have created a prevailing environment for both academic and spiritual growth of the students, he said.
Omokungbe appreciated the role of the Church in inculcating the right moral values in the lives of the students, positing that academic excellence without character is incomplete education.
He congratulated the College church community for the Foundation Laying Ceremony and pledged continuous support for the Chapel.

The Rector urged the Church to continue to support the College to ensure that Yabatech students are not only academically outstanding, but also morally and spiritually upright , particularly in this time of increased vices in the society.
Other dignitaries present at the occasion are Archbishop of Lagos Mainland, Most Rev. Obafemi B. Adeleye, the richest woman in Africa and Fellow of Yabatech, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, college management team, College Chaplain, Very Rev. Olumuyiwa Awe and Chairman, Chapel building committee, Pastor B.A. Ajayeoba.
There were also the Chairman, Chapel Council, Pastor Sola Akeredolu, Chairman, Chapel Building Technical Sub-Committee, Deacon B.A. Mafimidiwo, Chairman, Joint Christian Union, Bro. Emmanuel Okegbami and Senior Chapel Steward, Bro. Olawale Ogunnariwo.
