Two Years After, Widow, Children Of Murdered DSS Official In Delta Demand Justice

Widow and four children of the official of the Directorate of State Service (DSS), Andrew Maduku, who was set ablaze by assailants in front of his residence at Oghara, Ethiope west local government area of Delta state, are crying for justice over the untimely death of their husband and father.

Maduku was burnt on April 24, 2016 while relaxing in the cool evening outside his residence, when the assailant approached with a bowl of fuel, poured the fuel on him, and immediately set him ablaze.

Following the serious injuries sustained from the 86 degree burns, he was first taken to Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara from where he was immediately referred to University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City where he was confirmed dead the next day as a result of 86 degree burns sustained from the attack.

Available reports indicate that the victim, Maduku, 43, at the time of the incident, had four children and an indigene of Oghara in Ethiope west local government area of Delta state.

Prior to his death, Maduku was attached to DSS office in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

It was learnt that the victim was walking home one evening when the assailant continually point rays of a torchlight on his face blindfolding him.

He was said to have struggled to get to the person holding the torch that turned out to be a boy in his early 20s who was accompanied by some friends. In the resulting scuffle, the victim slapped the boy.

The victim then reported the matter to the police at Oghara who went with him to arrest the boy. But the boy on sighting the police officers ran away.

The police officer seized the boy’s laptop expecting him to report at the station. Thereafter, the victim returned to his duty post at Bayelsa state.

The victim, however, came back home to Oghara after about two weeks to spend the weekend with his wife and four children when the sad and unfortunate incidence happened.

April 24, 2018 marked the second year of his gruesome murder.

It is noteworthy that the assailant who went into hiding after the incident, has since been arrested by the police at Oghara, and is currently remanded at Sapele prison while the court case is on-going at court 4, Warri.

On this second year of the dastardly death of her loving husband, the widow and the four children are crying for justice over the death of their husband and father.
