CSR: WAEC To Donate 1050 Sets Of Desks And Chairs To Marking Centers

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has taken an exemplary Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by procuring 1050 sets of branded desks and chairs for onward distribution to 21 selected schools serving as its centers for coordinating examiners and marking the scripts of candidates.

At a press event to launch the project, the council’s Head of National Office Mr. Olu Adenipekun, said that 21 schools were selected in Nigeria to flag-off the CSR initiative, which the council hopes to continue to enable it reach the entire 82 schools used by the council as venues for the marking of candidates’ Scripts for both the school and private candidates examinations.

Said he, “the Council, even though, it is a non-profit making organization, has proven to be a very good corporate entity. In order to give back to its stakeholders, Corporate Social Responsibility has remained the hallmark of WAEC. We have supported the Nigerian Child in so many ways, but today, we have decided to take it further.

“To this end, the Council in Nigeria has purchased 1,050 (One Thousand and Fifty) pieces of branded Student Chairs and Tables for distribution to some selected schools which serve as venues for the coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School and Private Candidates in Nigeria.

“The vision of the Council is to be a world-class examining body adding value to the educational goals of its stakeholders. In line with this vision, the Council in Nigeria has placed a high premium on the Nigerian Child.

“Over the years, the Council has lived up to this mandate and has provided qualitative and reliable educational assessment, encouraged academic and moral excellence, promoted sustainable human resource development and international cooperation.” He added.

Adenipekun further explained that the 21schools were selected from 10 States of the federation namely: Sokoto, Oyo, Abia, Kwara, Bayelsa, Plateau, Edo, Kogi, Nasarawa and Delta, adding that they would be the first batch of beneficiaries of the “noble initiative.”

He said each of the selected schools will receive 50 sets of the WAEC branded student chairs and tables signaling the take-off point of the project, and that by the end of second quarter of 2020, WAEC would have touched all the schools serving as marking venues in Nigeria.

“In addition to this branded student chairs and tables going to the 21 schools, five sets of the WAEC branded chairs and tables will also go the teachers in the selected schools, “ He hinted.

The council’s Chief Executive Officer in Nigeria described the CSR project as the exam body’s own way of saying thank you to the schools that have supported it in the conduct of the WASSCE in Nigeria by making their facilities available, despite their other commitments and challenges.
